Accommodation Choice Summary

All the following venues need to be booked in conjunction with your registration, which is available on-line. All are within walking distance or on the free CAT bus route, or a combination of the two modes.

Accommodation Details

Esplanade Hotel

Situated at 14 Marine Terrace, this 4.5-star hotel was the venue and accommodated most of the delegates for the MERGA23 Conference held in 2000. It provides all the services you could ever require. It is close to the city centre and many facilities, and is on the free CAT bus route which runs every 10 minutes and passes close to the John Curtin College of the Arts. 


Prices per room per night are as follows: Single or Double or Twin $236; Triple $281.

Trade Winds Hotel

Situated at 59 Canning Highway, adjacent to the Swan River Estuary, this 3.5-star hotel provides all the services you would require. It is not on the CAT bus route, but just off the CAT map at the northern end of East Street, and is only a 10-minute walk from the conference venue.


Prices per room per night are as follows: Single or Double or Twin $185; Triple $245.

Rosie O'Grady's Irish Pub

Situated at 23 William Street in the heart of Fremantle, this 2.5 star hotel brings a little of Ireland to the city. It has 17 fully restored heritage rooms, each furnished with a queen-size bed. Standard rooms are in groups of three with a shared bathroom, while deluxe rooms have ensuites. The free CAT bus route is close by.


Prices per room per night are as follows.
Standard with shared bathroom facilities: Single or Double $110. Deluxe with ensuite: Single or Double $160.

Harbour Quest Apartments

Situated in Mews Road on the quay in Challenger Harbour, these self-contained and serviced 4-star apartments offer a superb view of the marinas and Indian Ocean. They are about 10 minutes’ walk from the free CAT bus route.


Prices per apartment per night are as follows:
One-bedroom apartments with queen bed: Single or Double $250
Two-bedroom apartments with queen bed & two singles: Takes 2-4 persons $289
Three-bedroom apartments with queen bed & four singles: Takes 3-6 persons $380.

Callan Apartments

The three apartments situated in Ord Street are now all booked, and these studio apartments are in a high position overlooking the Indian Ocean and have all necessary facilities. It is only a very short stroll to the conference venue, and the free CAT bus passes by to provide easy access to other places in Fremantle. The two apartments in South Terrace on the CAT route have also been booked out.

Ord St Apartments (3 only): Single or Double $135
South Tce Apartments (2 only): Single or Double $165

Fremantle Colonial Accommodation

With their base at 215 High Street the three prison cottages were built by convicts in the 19th century; as was the terraced house consisting of  apartments with ensuites. These colonial cottages retain the heritage aspects while fitted out with all necessary facilities, and are a short walk to both the centre of Fremantle and to the conference venue. The free CAT bus is also readily accessible. Numbers very limited, as detailed below.


Prices per night are as follows:
1. Two ensuite rooms: Single or Double $170
2. Two Apartments: A one-bedroom with queen & single $200, and a two-bedroom with two queen beds $200
3. Three cottages: Two-bedroom with queen bed and two singles $230 (Now all booked)

Backpackers Inn Freo

This is a hostel which is part of the YHA chain. It provides budget accommodation, is centrally located at 11 Pakenham Street, and is a short walk to all amenities including the free CAT bus.
